What do I need a building permit for?
A permit is required for most major home projects including re-roofing & siding, fences, cesspool replacement, retaining walls, etc. Please check with the Village Hall before you begin any work. Work done without a permit is a violation and subject to fines.
What days can I put out my trash?
Trash is picked up either Mon, Wed, Fri or Tues, Thurs, Sat. Please call the village hall to determine your schedule.
I am selling my home, what do I need to do?
You need to make sure that there are no open permits for your property. Any open permits will delay your closing. You can come to the village hall to review your property file and we will assist you in determining if any permits are open.
Can I have a garage sale?
Yes but you need a permit.
Can I park in front of my house overnight?
No. There is no overnight parking allowed on village roads, however, if you are having a party or resurfacing your driveway and must park in the street, contact the village hall and we will give you a permit to park overnight and notify the police as well so you will not be ticketed.
Can I put out a for sale sign?
No. Commerical signs are not permitted on residential property and are subject to fines. This includes contractor’s signs, however, you may put out a one day type of sign for an open house or a tag sale.
How do I obtain a copy of a death certificate?
You must appear in person and be a member of the immediate family of the decedent and have proof of the relationship or have a court order. You must know the approximate date of death. Copies are $10 each.
I got a ticket, do I have to come to court?
No, you can pay the fine listed on the ticket either in person during office hours or by mail, however it must be received before the appearance date on the ticket.
Can I plead not guilty?
Yes. Mark the box on the ticket and sign it. You will need to appear for arraignment on the appearance date. The judge will then advise you of the date of your conference.
When can I come to court?
There is one arraignment night per month at 7 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. If you plead not guilty the judge will schedule you for a conference which is held at 7 pm on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
